At the heart of VEDA MODERN is a singular undertaking: the stewardship of extraordinary mountain landscapes.
For more than a decade, our work has been shaped by the historic landscapes of Colorado's high country. These places have informed our architecture, construction practices, real estate expertise, historic preservation work, and the collections curated through Gallery VEDA.
The Bonanza Land LLC Portfolio has been particularly influential. Its historic mountain properties have provided both a proving ground and a continuing source of inspiration for an approach in which land, architecture, infrastructure and history are considered together.
We believe remarkable places deserve thoughtful stewardship. Our role is not simply to construct buildings or facilitate the transfer of land, but to understand each landscape, respect what came before, and help shape its next chapter with purpose.
OUR PHILOSOPHY
The name VEDA is derived from the ancient Sanskrit word for knowledge—not simply information, but knowledge gained through observation, experience and understanding.
That idea guides our work.
We believe architecture should emerge from the landscape rather than dominate it. Historic places deserve preservation as well as thoughtful evolution. Objects should possess provenance. Homes should become legacies.
Land, architecture, history and culture are inseparable.
THE LANDSCAPE THAT SHAPED VEDA MODERN
For more than a decade, VEDA MODERN has worked within the historic mountain landscapes of the Bonanza Land LLC Portfolio.
Across alpine forests, mountain meadows, historic mining landscapes and former gold-mining properties, this work has required us to understand not only architecture, but the realities of building in Colorado's high country.
Access. Water. Wastewater. Energy. Topography. Solar orientation. Historic resources. Municipal approvals. Remote infrastructure. Construction at elevation.
That experience has shaped a practice in which the building is never considered independently from the land upon which it stands.
It has also resulted in a body of completed work—including sixteen VEDA MODERN residences—that demonstrates how historic mountain properties can thoughtfully evolve into contemporary places to live.

VEDA MODERN brings together disciplines that are often treated separately.
DEVELOPMENT · DESIGN · CONSTRUCTION
We conceive and build site-specific architecture for extraordinary mountain environments, from bespoke residences to new architectural concepts developed through the VEDA SERIES.
Our particular experience with remote and high-elevation properties has led to an expertise in grid-independent living, including solar generation, battery storage, wells, onsite wastewater systems and the infrastructure necessary to make challenging sites viable.

OUR FOUNDER
Carl Schembri founded VEDA MODERN at the intersection of development, construction, real estate, design, historic preservation and collecting.
As a Colorado Managing Real Estate Broker and Licensed General Contractor, he has spent more than a decade immersed in the stewardship and development of Colorado mountain properties.
His work ranges from contemporary, grid-independent residences on repurposed patented gold-mining properties to new residential development within the Central City National Historic District. Architecture, construction, land, historic preservation, art and travel continue to inform the perspective behind VEDA MODERN.
His work is guided by a simple belief:
